MemorialSumiton Area Veteran's Memorial Unveiling Service
On November 13th the sun was high and warm. The flag ruffling wind out of the northwest made the morning perfect. Cars began to arrive over an hour before the ceremony was to begin and visitors had to park in over-flow parking across the road. The crowd hushed as if church service was about to begin. People of all ages came to pay tribute to area veterans - those who served, those who fought, and those who gave their lives so that Americans can live freely. There were short speeches, award presentations, and music by a military band. The bugler played Taps and many people fought back tears. We can all be proud of the City of Sumiton. The mayor Petey Ellis formed a team and put Bill Fowler in charge of making it happen. They all worked diligently to bring the memorial to fruition. Yes it was a good day in small town America - thanks to the veterans. Click here for lots of pictures from the ceremony
